Intermittent Hypoxic Training

Train at altitude.
At sea level.

The machine next to this sign delivers short, controlled bouts of low-oxygen air. Your blood oxygen and heart rate are recorded throughout, so the session is measured rather than estimated.

What it can do for you

A controlled hypoxic stimulus

Short bouts of low-oxygen air at a set level, under supervision, rather than an uncontrolled exposure.

Preparation used before altitude

Hypoxic training is widely used ahead of treks, expeditions and altitude races. It is preparation, not a substitute for acclimatising on the mountain.

A measured dose, not a guess

We record what your body actually received during the session, against your own resting baseline, instead of counting minutes on a machine.

Your own numbers, kept

Blood oxygen and heart rate are recorded through each session and scored with our candidate index, so you can compare one session with the next.

How it works

  1. Breathe. You breathe altitude-simulated air during light exercise or rest.
  2. Measure. Your blood oxygen drops in a controlled way and we record it continuously, alongside heart rate.
  3. Compare. Each session is scored against your own baseline, so you can see how you responded and how that changes over a block.

Who it's for

Endurance athletes Trekkers & mountaineers Altitude-race prep Cyclists & runners A science-led edge

Frontier Performance is a sports-science venture building the measurement and methodology behind modern hypoxic training.

What we do not claim. Response to hypoxic training varies between individuals and depends on the protocol used. We do not promise improved performance, and hypoxic training is not a substitute for acclimatising on the mountain. Our hypoxic-dose index is a candidate measure and the methods paper is under revision following peer review.
