Between an athlete's body and a decision that matters, the measurement chain breaks in five places. Sensors that disagree where it counts. Data locked in five separate apps. No agreed measure of what the body actually took. Preparation prescribed without a personal baseline. And little practical way to get it off the mountain.

Most altitude and hypoxic-training metrics in use today combine altitude with exposure time and stop there – ignoring how your individual physiology actually responds to the stimulus. We measure the response, not just the room.

01 – Sense

Sensors disagree where it matters

The market offers plenty of sensors. Reliable capture at the extremes is another thing: in independent 2025 lab testing – at rest, in controlled conditions – none of four medically approved finger oximeters met the agreement test between 55% and 70% saturation. Our own field capture degraded in cold and motion.

For the critical oxygen channel we record a medical-grade reference alongside the wearable under test, so agreement is measured rather than assumed. It does not eliminate sensor error.

02 – Combine

Devices keep their own data

Makers typically keep their readings inside their own app, so the merge happens after the event and by hand. Our own field records took vendor CSV exports, e-mail and manual time alignment before anyone could look at them together.

We bring selected sensor feeds onto a common clock, live. Three independent sensors, one timeline, captured as it happens.

03 – Interpret

The dose goes unmeasured

Altitude sickness is still assessed mainly from self-reported symptoms, and the field has no agreed personal measure of internal hypoxic stress. Exposure – altitude multiplied by time – is a description of the room, not of the person in it.

Hypoxic Stress Dose (HSD) is our candidate index: time spent below your own baseline, with deeper deficits weighted more heavily. The methods paper is under revision following peer review.

04 – Learn

Preparation without a baseline

Protocols are prescribed without a personal baseline or outcome-linked evidence. In our published twin case, one twin spent 351 hours in a hypoxic tent and the other 30 – with no observable advantage on the mountain.

Recorded sessions are measured against your own baseline, and the architecture is designed to link consented symptoms and performance outcomes back to each dose record.

05 – Relay

Getting the data out

Above base camp a broadband terminal is too heavy and too power-hungry to carry, and raw multi-channel telemetry does not fit a low-power radio packet budget either. The reading exists, but the people who could act on it rarely see it in time.

In development: compute a small summary on the device, then relay it. A 40-metre low-power hop is demonstrated outdoors with clear line of sight; satellite onward from base is planned.
